You came to the right spot for this answer: what is the easiest way to shave your back? I own and have used as well as written reviews on over 50 different back shavers—more than anyone else or website out there. I’ve been writing on this subject since 2017 and have formed a solid foundation on which to answer that question correctly.
I Love To Help
I enjoy helping other men find what they are looking for in a back shaver. I started back shaving when there were only one or two back shavers on the market, and I believe they pretty much sucked. Before that, I was using hair shears attached to a stick. Yeah, those were the good old days!? Oh, and I tried using a regular disposable beard razor on my back. Oh, my god, the frustration from those days.
I want to help avoid frustration and make things easier.

Pssst…Here Is A Little Secret, Back Shaving Is Easy!!!
But we can make it even easier for you!
You can make it as complicated as you want, but it doesn’t need to be complicated at all. Websites will tell you you need to do this and that, well, in truth, you don’t really have to. They are just suggestions.
Just grab a quality back shaver, and with slow, deliberate, straight strokes, pull. It is that easy.
Back shaving takes me roughly 10 minutes to complete my whole back. It might, for the first couple of times, take longer, maybe 20 minutes or so.
Once you get over the initial jitters of shaving your back and learn the proper technique, you will have reduced the time it takes considerably. After about five times, you’ll have already mastered it; as I said earlier, it is so easy.
- Take It Slow.
- Pull In straight lines.
Breaking Your Work Mentally Into Quadrants
Break down your back into four quadrants. Obviously, use the spine as a vertical natural line, then a horizontal line somewhere on your mid-back. By focusing on one section at a time, you can concentrate specifically on removing all hair from that area. Then, you can move on to the other sections of your back.
Be meticulous and check out your work in the mirror.

Dry Or Wet Shaving???
Dry shaving for me, please!
I love to dry shave my back; I find it is the easiest and my preferred method. I have tried wet shaving my back once and found the hair often clumped and clogged the razors, and I had to address the situation.
Don’t take my word on it. The only real way to know what you prefer is to try it yourself and form your own opinion.
Dry shaving is simply shaving your back dry. What I like about dry shaving is the hair just falls to the floor, and it doesn’t clump or clog the razors—plus, it makes it a lot faster to shave my back. When dry shaving, you can hear the razors working.
Checking Your Work
Although you can see your whole back in the mirror, you can check most of it by turning and looking into a mirror. This is highly recommended to ensure you did a good job removing all the unwanted hair.
Myths Of Back Shaving
Believe it or not, there are many falsehoods surrounding back shaving. I will list the most common below. These are unnecessary and often frustrating.
- You do not need a loofah or back scrubber.
- You do not need a back lotion applicator.
- You do not need to use shaving cream.
- You do not need aftershave products.
- You do not need to shower beforehand. I often shave my back, which turns out great, and I rarely shower beforehand. Some people might find this helps soften back hair prior to shaving.
- You do not need to exfoliate the back after shaving it.
