I’ve been shaving my back for close to ten years now and own a website dedicated to back shaving, so I like to think I have a little authority on this subject. I would like to address a common question many new to back-shaving men might have: what is the easiest way to shave your back?

Thankfully, shaving your back can be easy with the right tools and knowledge. But it also can be a lot harder with the wrong tools and also the wrong information.
When I first started trying to shave my back, there were no real back shavers to buy; there just wasn’t a market dedicated to this “weird” and “unexplored” hygiene product. I often tried to tape beard razors and hair clippers to a stick and tried to shave my back hair with little success. This (back shaving) back then was hard and not working at all.
I will lay out the best tools as well as cut through the bullshit knowledge floating around the internet pertaining to shaving your back.
Time & Safety
With modern design and engineering, shaving your back is easy and usually takes less than 10 minutes. Most importantly, it is very safe as long as you follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer.
Important safety note: you should avoid shaving any moles, scars, or pimples on your back to avoid cutting yourself. Just shave right up next to them with going over them. Just take your time when first using a back shaver. It is not a race; just make slow and straight, deliberate, controlled strokes, and you will be just fine. I know I was kinda scared the first couple of times using a dedicated back shaver, but you will become a seasoned pro after just a few times of using it.

The Wrong Tools
There are many back shavers to avoid buying! In fact, I wrote a whole article on ones to stay away from here, Back Shavers You Should Avoid Buying. The world of back shaving is riddled with cheap Chinese junk, and most of the time, these should be avoided.
Some General Guidelines
You get what you pay for. This is a general consensus for everything, right? No different in the world of back shaving. I would much rather pay more money for a quality product than spend the money wasted on an inferior product.
Any back shaver that uses a standard beard razor attached to the end of any handle is the WRONG TOOL! These types of back shaver can make back shaver a real chore because a standard beard razor is not designed to handle the length of back hair and it will quickly clog with hair. I am leaving you to have to clean the razor out and feel frustrated constantly.
The Right Knowledge
Dry shaving is the easiest and most effective I have found for shaving my back.
What does dry shaving mean?
Dry shaving simply means taking off your shirt and shaving your back without any creams or water; your back is completely dry. Simple, right?
Disregard videos, websites, or people who tell you to shave your back in the shower or to use shaving creams on your back. Complete nonsense!
Dry shaving is simpler and more effective. The hair just falls away to the floor instead of clogging the razor blade when dry shaving, as opposed to shaving wet. When shaving wet, you have more clogs as the hair stays attached to the razor and doesn’t fall away. Thus leaving you with more clogs.
Plus, shaving in the shower can potentially clog up your drain, leaving you or a plumber to fix the problem. Uhmm, yeah, I don’t have that headache.
You can prep the skin for back shaving by taking a shower beforehand and drying it off completely before shaving your back. I personally find this unnecessary.
Just dry shave your back and keep it simple.
The Wrong Knowledge
Most websites with information about back shaving state all these steps you need to take to shave your back. Well, it is good for some general information and knowledge, but it often leaves the person feeling like it is more complicated than it really needs to be. This isn’t brain surgery; it’s shaving back hair. Not too complicated.
They tell you to prep your back and use shaving cream. No, no, no! Again, this makes it more complicated than it needs to be. I even fell into this trap myself as I wondered if maybe it would work better. It didn’t, and it took some time before I realized that it wasn’t helping. It was making it worse.
The Worst Knowledge
By far and away, the worst knowledge out there on the internet is that websites promote and review back shavers without ever using or even owning a back shaver. They just write a review about a particular back shaver from information provided online, not from personal experience. I’m not kidding here at all. Most reviews never post any unique picture of the product showing proof of ownership. Just writing about it. I have even seen an article of a woman writing about a back shaver.
Not only that but some of the worst back shavers I have reviewed are listed in their top back shaver lists. This infuriates me to no end. The best advice is to avoid reviews without solid proof they own the product. A unique picture or video showing ownership, then at least you know they own it.
