Bakblade 1.0 VS Bakblade 2.0 Elite Plus

So, in the post, I hope to lay the groundwork and understanding to help a potential purchaser make the best-informed decision on the Bakblade 1.0 VS Bakblade 2.0 Elite Plus back shavers. Both of these products are excellent back shavers. Both these products are currently being offered for purchase. So, there lies the dilemma of which one to purchase.

Let’s dive deep into it.

What is The Bakblade 1.0?

The Bakblade 1.0 is the George Washington of Bakblade, the founding father, the trailblazer, the original. This is the product that started shaving back hair and taking names while doing it—the clear winner in the earlier days of back shavers being brought to market. Yes, there was a time when you couldn’t purchase a dedicated back shaver online.

This is also called the Bakblade 1.0 Bigmouth, later called just Bakblade 1.0.

Does It Destroy Back Hair?

Yes, of course, it does.

As it leaves a pile of back hair lying on the floor all around your feet when you are done using it. It works and works well.

What Is The Bakblade 2.0 Elite Plus?

The latest, greatest, and greatest is the best way to describe the 2.0 Elite Plus. I just recently reviewed this back shaver, and it immediately impressed me so much it took the all-time greatest back shaver I have reviewed to date.

So, since the original Bakblade 1.0, Bakblade has been steadily improving and innovating its back shavers and company. They are constantly pushing to better their product with each alteration of their back shaver.

Does This Obliterate Back Fur?

Being it is my top back shaver, I now recommend it to massacre back hair. Leaving nothing but clean, smooth dolphin skin in its wake.

Main Differences Of Bakblade 1.0 VS Bakblade 2.0 Elite Plus

Now to the meat and potatoes of the matter. Let’s do a deep dive and explore the different characteristics of each back hair remover.

Length

These are the same size in length, which is about 17 1/2″ inches long.

Shaving Head

The most significant difference is the shaving head. With the 1.0, you get a single-row cartridge filled with three safety razor blades. The width of this is 5 inches.

With the 2.0 Elite Plus, you get three cartridges stacked on top of each other, and each cartridge is filled with two side-by-side safety razors. The width of these cartridges is 3 3/8″ inches wide. (see below)

So, in effect, with the newer 2.0 Elite Plus, you are getting redundancy with each shaving pass, thereby getting a quicker and smoother shave. This thing knocks down hair with each stroke.

3 Razor Width Verses 2 Razor Width Who Wins & Why?

Most of the modern quality back shaver manufacturers have made the switch to two razor blade widths over the older three razor blade widths. The reason for this is that the three-razor width is too much, as only two razor widths are all that stay in contact with the skin when using it.

I have tested and observed this when shaving my back. You would initially think the three-razor width would be better, but it is not.

The Handle

The other big difference is the handle. The 1.0 is a one-piece construction, while the 2.0 Elite Plus is a two-piece construction. The two-piece construction allows the back shaver to be folded and stored out of the way or for easy packing when traveling.

This goes to the 2.0 Elite Plus.

Wielding & Weight

This is one area where I think the 1.0 shines over the newer model but is not a deal-breaker. The 1.0 is just lighter and more wielding than the newer model. It is more balanced, and there is something special about just gripping and using it; it feels right.

This goes to the 1.0 Bakblade.

Other Things To Possibly Consider

Another essential reason to go with the newer model is future-proofing. Older models typically and eventually get weaned out. So, who is to say in two years, five years, or ten years, will still be able to buy replacement cartridges for the older Bakblade 1.0? That is a lot of time, and many things can change.

So, to protect yourself by being able to buy replacement cartridges, I would also recommend getting the newer model 2.0 Elite Plus.

People have contacted me about the Bakblade 1.0 and say they love it over the 2.0 Elite Plus. The simplistic build and performance are preferred over the new bulker model. As it is not as balanced when used.

Which One I Recommend…If It Isn’t Obvious

They both work great, but with all its upgrades, the newer model reigns supreme, so the nod goes to the Bakblade 2.0 Elite Plus. It just has the newer improvements that make it better both in performance and storage/travel friendliness.

Both are excellent choices; I think the newer model 2.0 Elite Plus edges out the older model by a few key features.
