Is It Normal To Shave Your Back? Yes!!! It Sure Is

A Personal Preference

The big question is, Is it normal to shave your back? It all comes down to preference if you are wondering if you should shave your back as there is more than one way of dealing with back hair. But if you choose to shave your back, it is normal, and I feel it is the best method for removing back hair.

But let me assure you that if you choose to shave your back, it is a normal and effective means of removing unwanted hair. It is my preferred method, but there are other methods for removing back hair, mind you. But I don’t think they are as easy as using a quality-made back shaver, which can be done for far less money.

My Experience

I’ve been shaving my back for over ten years and love the results. I’ve made my own back shavers in the past (although not very effective), back before back shavers were widely available on the internet. Finding a good back shaver was quite the struggle, but thankfully not anymore.

Additionally, I have reviewed almost every (yes, nearly every) back shaver over 60+ back shavers that I own & have reviewed. So, nobody else has even come close to this much expertise. I am not tooting my own horn, but to be clear, I know what I am talking about.

Why Shaving Your Back Is The Best Method? My Opinion

There are so many benefits to shaving one’s own back, with few drawbacks.

So yes, there are some drawbacks, but the benefits far outweigh the negatives. I will share my experience, and you can bounce it around your head and formulate your own thoughts to see if it is right for you.

I am biased about back shaving because it has proven to work for me after many years of doing it. I realize not everyone is the same, but this is my opinion.

I wrote a post about how to use a back shaver here, How To Use A Back Shaver.

Excellent Results

In a short time, you will have a completely hairless back as shaving with a good quality back shaver is a must and removes any signs your back was hairy. It’s incredible what a sharp razor can do, totally transform how you look, and nobody will ever know.

So, if you are going on a tropical vacation or just don’t want hair on your back, you will get transformable results, and nobody will be the wiser.

No Pain

Unlike other methods of getting rid of back hair, such as waxing, laser, and epilation, shaving your back is painless. As long as you don’t nick yourself, that is. This can be avoided by using proper technique, and it has been years since I have nicked myself shaving my back. Always follow the instructions for the specific brand of back shaver.

Shaving doesn’t involve any pain and makes a great option.

Easy

It is stupidly easy to shave your back. The contemporary design of a quality back shaver makes it so simple. The long handle has a curve to make reaching every spot on your back a breeze. You don’t have to contort your arms in god-awful bends. With a single stroke, you’ll be taking swaths of back hair off in large quantities.

The most complicated aspect of shaving your back is to remember to make straight pulls of the back shaver. No changing angles, just a straight pull. That’s it. Super easy.

Self-Reliantancy

As a man, I often need to do things myself. I have pride, guilt, and the ability to avoid other people’s projection of disapproval or judgment. I can not conceive of myself taking my shirt and having someone remove my back hair for me. I just can’t do this. Sorry, I am a flawed individual, I guess.

I take care of this problem myself and am self-reliant. For me, it’s about taking care of things and being a man.

Affordable & Cheap

This can be one of the cheapest methods of dealing with back hair. After initially purchasing the back shaver and the razors or shaving cartridges, you will have a tool that can be used for a lifetime.

Compared to going to a salon or spa and paying someone to remove your back hair by either waxing, laser, or another method, these treatments can be pretty hard on the wallet, and these start to add up the more times you go.

Doesn’t Take Long

How long does it take to shave your back?

Well, after you have used a back shaver at least a couple of times to get a feel for it, you usually can complete the task very quickly. The first couple of times you shave your back, you should really slow down and pay strict attention to proper technique. This will be a little slower in the beginning, but you will quickly master it.

So, how long does it take? It takes me under ten minutes, and my back is completely hairless and smooth. Often, shaving my beard takes longer than shaving my back. More on this later…

Prep

Back shaving = no prep!

This is not shaving your face; remember this. Shaving your face takes prep work. Wetting your face with warm water, shaving creams, and brushes are required to avoid pulling, nicks, and cuts. Back shaving is not shaving your face. It is different.

Think Dry Shaving & No Prep

In the past, I have prepped for my back, and it was a complete waste of time. Now, I just take my shirt off and dry shave my back with zero prep, and believe it or not, it works the best. See, a good back shaver is designed for this, and your back hair is different than your facial hair.

I only shave my back by dry shaving.

Why is this?

Number one, it’s the simplest. People love to complicate matters, especially if they read what is available online about shaving your back.

Number two, it works the best. This works well because the blades on a back shaver do not clog with hair. If your back hair is wet, it will quickly clump up on the razor and clog it. Thereby, you will be spending more time unclogging the razor.

With dry shaving, the hair simply just falls away and never clogs the razor. Yeah, it is the best method. Don’t believe me. Try it yourself.

Other Methods Of Dealing With Back Hair

So, what are the other methods of dealing with back hair?

  • Waxing – Painful & Expensive
  • Laser Treatment – Expensive
  • Trimming – Only trims the hair and leaves longer hair than shaving.
  • Epilation – Painful
  • Depilatory Creams – Stinky & Chemically

Negative Of Shaving Your Back

Shaving your back isn’t a permanent result. You will have to keep shaving your back either weekly, bi-weekly or once a month, depending on your own personal taste and the growth of hair.

Another negative is if you have a lot of moles on your back, acne, or scars. You can easily avoid these blemishes if you have a few, but if your back is lit with them, then back shaving could be more of a problem. It is highly recommended to avoid shaving these as they can quickly shave off the skin and cause your back to bleed.

Also, replacing razor blades or shaving cartridges. Well, not that big of a deal. It can be a slight inconvenience. But this is to be expected and normal.
